February 5&6, 2020

So, I took two rest days in a row. After seeing the doctor on Tuesday, I started a new medication. Tuesday night was a sleepless night because of restless legs and twitching feet; the first signs of an allergic reaction after only two doses of the new medication. By Wednesday afternoon, I was considering having all of my itchy skin removed. When I started sweating and feeling shaky, I decided to go to the walk-in clinic. They gave me Benadryl and Prednisone and had me sit there for observation for a while in case I needed a shot of epinephrine. Thankfully, my symptoms began to decrease and I was able to go home and go to bed. On Benadryl and Prednisone. I slept really, really hard…five minutes at a time. It was a pretty miserable day and couple of nights. I’m feeling much better now.
So much better, in fact, that I decided to go workout today, but kind of take it easy on myself, you know? After all, I had been feely pretty cruddy and I hadn’t worked out in two days. I figured I’d walk the treadmill for 20 minutes and call it good. Funny thing though. The fast walk I was doing a few days ago felt slow. I sped up to where if I went any faster, I’d be running. (Running…coming soon!) I didn’t have to take any breaks to let my heart rate slow. In fact, I had to really work to get my heart rate over the number that I hadn’t been allowing myself to exceed. I added ten minutes and a half mile to my treadmill walk today and I still feel pretty functional. How about that. I don’t know if I should credit my days of rest or the Prednisone. It’s steroids, right?
I want to start doing more for my upper body too so, after trying and doing it all wrong, I had a trainer show me how to use the rowing machine. Now that is a workout. I was able to stay on for eight minutes, with about five of those minutes using the machine correctly. I could have gone a lot longer doing it the wrong way.
I’ve been compiling my own workout playlist on Spotify. Whenever I hear a song on a different playlist or on the radio that seems like a good workout song, I add it my playlist. Right now, it has 27 songs, mostly CCR. I’d probably be fine with it only being CCR but I need to mix it up a little. Throw in some Nirvana. And Janice. And Chuck Berry. I know, I’m weird.
Planer Fitness had their grand opening in Corvallis today. They had tables with food, that I stayed away from because tons of random stranger picking up food straight out of containers with their fingers is gross. There was a table with a bunch of different “health drinks” that were all carbonated. Nope. And there was the prize table. Just spin the wheel to win a planet Fitness water bottle or fanny pack or towel! I spun the wheel and won a temporary Planet Fitness tattoo. I didn’t even ask. I told the gal I was trading my tattoo for a rubber Planet Fitness bracelet. Ha.
